Charming and Intimate: Alan & Lyndsey’s Wedding at Merewood Country House Hotel

Alan and Lyndsey's wedding took place at the beautiful Merewood Country House Hotel in Windermere, a venue rich with charm and stunning views of the Lake District. Set on 20 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and woodlands, Merewood offers the perfect blend of historic home and breathtaking scenery, making it an exceptional location for a Lake District wedding.

Placed right at the top of a hill overlooking Windermere, this 19th-century country house is full of character. The grand wood-panelled rooms and sweeping staircases give the house an old-world charm, that combined with the fresh greenery surrounding it give it a really secluded and peaceful atmosphere whilst not being too far from the hustle and bustle of the town.

The day began with Lyndsey getting ready in one of Merewood's stunning bridal suites, where the morning light poured in through the large bay windows. With views out over the lake, it made for the perfect serene start to the day, It always looks so peaceful to get your make up done while staring out at that view!

One of the venue's highlights is the garden terraces, where guests enjoyed drinks while looking out over Windermere and the distant fells. Alan and Lyndsey also wanted to sneak away for some portraits on the terrace and among the nearby woodland paths, taking in the natural beauty surrounding them: the house's traditional architecture and the natural backdrop made for some incredibly picturesque moments.

Their wedding breakfast was held in the Lounge, with its high ceilings and views over the grounds. The light in the room created a warm and welcoming atmosphere as everyone gathered to celebrate Alan and Lyndsey's special day. The hotel's excellent catering team provided a delicious meal (for myself included) showcasing locally-sourced ingredients — another aspect of Merewood that appealed to the couple when choosing the venue.

What made Merewood particularly special for Alan and Lyndsey was its ability to combine a sense of grandeur with the down-to-earth feeling of being in the Lakes. They wanted a day that was elegant but relaxed, intimate but surrounded by the vast beauty of nature—and Merewood delivered just that. The Lake District is known for its unpredictable weather, but on this day, the skies remained clear, allowing everyone to enjoy the full scope of what the venue has to offer.

Whether you're planning a small, intimate ceremony or a grand celebration, Merewood Country House Hotel offers a setting that feels both timeless and truly special. It's easy to see why Alan and Lyndsey fell in love with this venue and why it's such a popular choice for couples marrying in Windermere.

Enjoy,
